How Trauma Can Block Your Manifestations (and What to Do About It)

Updated: Oct 7, 2025

Trauma CAN interfere with your manifesting…

One of the biggest challenges to manifesting a new life or situation than the one you have always known is that your ego, the part of your brain responsible for keeping you safe, will always balk at new circumstances, even if they are good ones.  It’s similar to your body’s immune system.  Any new object is seen as a threat, an invader, something to isolate and trigger the warning bells.

Your brain perceives new situations (even good ones) like your body perceives foreign bacterial or viral invaders.

The same is true when it comes to manifesting safe people or experiences.  Your brain might not recognize “healthy” and “safe” and throw you into worrying about what could go wrong with people or situations that are benign, if not beneficial to you.

And a nervous system that is stuck in fight or flight or survival mode, isn’t going to be receptive to blessings and abundance.

It is KEY to work on your core wounds so you can be in a healthy enough emotional and spiritual space to be able to receive the gifts the Universe wants to bring you.  You don’t have to be fully healed, but you do have to be healed enough.

Knowing your issues (whether through therapy, your natal astrology chart, or a combination of the two), can help you target manifestation missteps.

I often use the phrase “fake it ‘til you make it.”  You have to believe you are worthy of all the good things you are asking the Universe to bring to you. But as I mentioned before, manifestation requires EMOTION, not just cognition.  You have to FEEL like the bad bish who walks through the fancy stores wearing the custom clothing, leading in the boardroom, etc., not just think it.

Affirmations are a way that I have learned to coach myself into FEELING like I am worth all the amazing things I am manifesting.  And this is not a process you can do sporadically.  I have had to commit to a daily practice of repeating affirmations.  And I still do.  Some days I FEEL them, and other days, I am going through the motions.  But even on those days when self-doubt or grief are hijacking my brain, there are a few that will penetrate and remind me, if nothing else, that I am loved, protected, and supported, no matter what else is happening around me.

Having a dedicated affirmation practice is ESSENTIAL—and there are no cheat days.  Maybe you skip a few from time to time, but YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR AFFIRMATIONS EVERY SINGLE DAY!

The few times I did skip my affirmations, my mood was off, and my focus drifted away from the goals I was trying to achieve.  (Maybe it’s just my brain, but I’m guessing I’m not THAT unique.)  Besides, the upside of saying the same things over and over again each day is that they really do become ingrained, and if you are in a funk or need a pick me up, there’s usually a mantra or phrase that you can pull out in a pinch you help you in that moment.  I have pages and pages that I recite daily, but this is the very first one that you can start with:
