I often joke that my ADHD brain thinks in song lyrics. Someone will say something, and my brain will complete the thought with a corresponding song. It’s a fun party trick and I thought it was just a quirk of my unique brain, but it turns out it’s actually one of the main ways my spirit team communicates with me. Thinking of songs or lyrics out of nowhere, or hearing a song with exactly the right message at precisely the right time is a form of clairaudience, one of the many different spiritual gifts people can develop.
I started to realize it wasn’t just a coincidence, especially when these perfectly placed songs or lyrics happened shortly after seeing Apollo on a sign, truck, or building. (Apollo is the Greek god associated with art and music. Now, when I see an Apollo plumbing truck, I queue up my music app and ask the Universe to show me what I need to hear.)

I must give credit where it is due. I had been using the regular sized deck of the above oracle cards and it was the hawk card's description that reminded me that those repeating numbers, lyrics, or animals were not just a coincidence, but a way that spirit was trying to communicate with me.
As the linked article to the left explains, all of us are imbued with intuition (some might call it a divine spark), which makes us capable of tapping into the spiritual realm. You don’t have to be a spiritual leader or official practitioner to tap into these gifts, either. You just have to be willing to believe that you are capable of receiving messages and then open yourself up to receiving them.
It sounds easy enough but tapping into spiritual gifts can be difficult if you grew up with religious baggage that taught that only religious leaders have access to divine wisdom, that anything other than God (as defined by that tradition) should be viewed with suspicion, or that these kinds of spiritual gifts were examples of mental illness or weakness.
Though my Virgo moon makes me extremely analytical and skeptical of anything too out of the box, my 9th house (house of religion, travel, spirituality, and publishing) is ruled by Aries, who is all about blazing trails and trying new things. Which kind of makes me the perfect “taste-tester” so to speak. I am willing to try new things, but I am going to document it, test it, and make sure it actually works before sharing it with others!
You might have noticed your own spiritual gifts developing…do you often just “know” something without really understanding how you know it? That’s claircognizance! Spiritualists will call this “receiving downloads” from Spirit, though I just think of is as “the knowing.” The biggest challenge to this gift, I have found, is making sure your ego doesn’t co-opt the message, especially if it challenges your known experiences or current circumstances. Trusting the knowledge and not overthinking it has been the biggest hurdle for me.
Same goes with all of these gifts; it’s essential to trust your intuition, to trust yourself and the messages you are receiving, and be willing to ignore the naysayers who will question you about them.
Each of us is unique and not all of us will have the same spiritual gifts, so if you aren’t tapping into spirit in one way, take time to pray or meditate and ask God/Spirit/The Universe to show where your gifts lie.
The more you get used to receiving spirit messages in a variety of ways, you may find you develop more gifts!
